Endless summer nights- Honig Sauvignon Blanc ‘04
As most of us are trying to thaw out from a record breaking cold winter, I find myself longing for those long summer days. My family’s favorite past time during the Spring and Summer Months are BBQ’s, Family, Friends and a great bottle of wine.
During the warmer months we like a good chilled white wine either alone or with a great meal. I personally tend to prefer a good chardonnay, but this past summer Sauvignon Blanc’s were among my favorite wines! One in particular was “Honig Saviougn Banc 2004”. What a delightful wine…. I could just sit and take in the aromas of this delicious fruity wine. The aromas were tropical and reminded me of the sweet smells of Hawaii. The wine was smooth, and paired well with our meals. We also enjoyed it on it’s own as well.
Honig (which means honey in German) Saviougion Blanc 04 is from Rutherford in the heart of Napa Valley along the Napa River it is Wente #1 (99% Sauvignon) and 1% Semillon. It is from a Musque Clone. Musque Clone is a certain type of grape that tends to be more perfumed with the tropical aromas. The leaves from these grapes are removed exposing the clusters to the sun light which stimulates the berries to create more intense fruit flavors and aromas. This wine pair’s great with salmon cooked on the grill, as well as roasted chicken.
As January ends I know that we are just a few months away from those delightful summer evenings outside. Once again we will enjoy uncorking another bottle of Honig Sauvignon Blanc and gazing up at the stars with the aromas of the tropics filling our senses!
