FAIRPLAY, Calif. - San Francisco-based songstress Sharon Knight brings her Celtic magic to Fairplay as part of Cantiga Wineworks' Wine Down Fridays July 9.
Knight is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a concentration in mandola, acoustic guitar, and bodhran. Her 2004 album "Song of the Sea" reflects the colorful traditions of her Celtic/Nordic heritage.
Joining Knight on acoustic guitar will be her longtime collaborator Winter - a tasteful musician who lends a dimension of bluesy rock and jazz to Knight's modal, traditional sound.
Adding to the musical arrangement will be Sierra Foothills-based, multi-instrumentalist Caith Threefires, with his fascinating Irish bouzouki and mandolin.
"We are certain that their music will enthrall and transport you," said Cantiga Wineworks owners Rich and Christine Rorden.
The food theme for the evening will be "Gourmet Taco Night" and will offer a choice of coffee-rubbed, slow-cooked brisket meat with chipotle, or Mahi-Mahi with pineapple salsa, served on warm corn tortillas with delicious toppings and sides.
The brisket tacos pair perfectly with Cantiga's 2005 Herbert Vineyard Zinfandel, which will be released that evening. The Rordens recommend pairing the mahi-mahi tacos with their Oakless Chardonnay. Guests with other preferences for pairing Cantiga wine with their meal will be able to enjoy any of the house wines by the glass or bottle at the regular tasting room prices.
Wine Down time lasts from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on select Fridays. There is no cover charge for the entertainment. Meal prices range from $8 to $15. Wine by the glass is sold at $6 to $8. Bottle prices range from $20 to $30; Cantiga wine club members will receive their standard discounts.
