2005 Eclipse White
An exotic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. This aromatic, fruit-driven wine is perfectly balanced and off-dry. At first glance it seems to emulate barrel-aged Chardonnay. As the wine warms and opens in the glass the melon flavor from the Pinot Blanc reveals itself followed by subtle spicy, exotic notes formed by the Pinot Gris and the oak barrels. All the flavors combine to create a wine with a distinct character that is truly one of a kind. Awards include:
- Gold, 2008 New York State Fair
- Silver, 2007 Pacific Rim International Wine Competition
- Silver, 2007 New York Wine and Food Classic
Food pairings Wonderful and complete on its own chilled to 50-55°F. Matches well with all white meats and heartier fish dishes especially when complimented by cream sauces. A great entertaining wine with appetizers (spinach and artichoke dip). Works great with Greek style foods (Souvlaki and Tzaziki Sauce). Or try it with Ricotta Dumplings with Mushroom-Lemon Broth.
My Notes – This is a beautiful bottle of wine. The glass bottle is just beautiful and that is what caught my eye at the wine store! My daughter thought the little blue spots were mold spots from some of the ‘back-of-the-fridge-science-projects’ that I have!!!
Anyways, back to the wine, very nice color and pleasant nose. The nose reminded me of pepper, it was a little heavy but still pleasant. The flavor is really nice. When cold this wine is a bit of a light-weight and I would not pair it with something spicy or heavy with gravy. This is a great summer wine to take and drink all by itself, because when it starts to get a little warm, is when the true flavor comes out. Nice a full with the heavy essence of fruit coming through. This is a great versatile wine.
