Title: Thomas Fogarty Pinot Noir ‘06
Category: peaceful
Blog Entry: Tonight we opened a bottle of Thomas
Fogarty Pinot Noir ‘06. This wine was given to us by an acquaintance.
We decided to have it with our dinner. We took advantage of the
beautiful evening and Ron volunteered to BBQ. As we sat outside
overlooking our surroundings I thought how appropriate that we are
sampling a Santa Cruz Mountain Wine….Perfect for this evening…….while
we sit in the Santa Cruz Mountains
This winery was founded in 1981 by
Dr. Thomas Fogarty, a Stanford cardiovascular surgeon. It sits 2000
feet above sea level with amazing views as far as San Francisco bay. We
drive this drive all the time and I always look over to this beautiful
winery. This winery produces everything from Pinot to Cabernet.
The first thing we noticed prior to
opening this bottle was that it was unfiltered. This is common for
Santa Cruz Mountain wines. Wines that take advantage of this mountain
region. Swirling the glass the nose was evident of tart cherries and
earth. I had to focus as the distractions are all around
me…………..crickets singing, as the tiki torch flames light the sky, made
to perfection, the steak dinner was great and……………back to the wine, the
first sip on the palate matched the aroma, tart cherries and earth with
fruit undertones. Prior to the meal this wine was OK to Good. But
pairing this wine with our BBQ’d steak made it better.
The pairing enhanced the wine and was enjoyable to drink. This wine had
a long finish with 14.5% alcohol. We have had Pinots that we enjoyed
more but as we have said before atmosphere plays a big part in your
recollection of a wine and tonight is just that!!!!
I love evenings like this………
